The Cumberland County school system consists of 86 schools: 53 elementary, 15 middle, 11 high schools, and seven special-focus schools. The county contains a diverse community. In addition to English, the five largest language groups are Spanish, Korean, German, Chinese and Vietnamese.
The system receives its share of honors. For the last four years, the County's Principal of the Year has also been named the Regional Principal of the Year. Cumberland County Schools and the Junior League of Fayetteville received the first Governor's Partnership Award for their collaboration on the Teacher's Toolbox.
